eter Runkle and Mary M. Bevington were married in Jackson Township on October 3, 1867. Their children consist of Carrie Reason, born September 8, 1868; Charles Sumner, January 3, 1870; Essie Elma, June 8, 1875. Peter Runkle was born in Perry County, Ohio, March 1, 1836. He removed to Wells County, in 1853; is a farmer. His parents are Jeremiah and Christina (Waukenhous) Runkle. He was elected Supervisor in the year 1878. He served four years in the late war, being a member of Company A, 47th Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry; was a participant in the battles of Fort Donaldson, Vicksburg, Port Gibson, Champion Hills, Fort Pillow, and several others. The regiment to which he belonged was organized at Camp Sullivan, in September 1861, and ordered to Kentucky, in department of General Buel, on December 13, 1861. Mrs. Runkle, daughter of Reason A. and Katherine (Shadle) Bevington, settlers of Wells County in 1848, is a native of Wayne county, Ohio, having been born September 7, 1848.
