A Few Facts About Vanderburgh County
  • Vanderburgh County is divided into 8 Civil Townships as follows: Armstrong, Center, German, Knight, Perry, Pigeon, Scott and Union.
  • Vanderburgh County was organized February 1, 1818. 
  • Evansville is the County Seat. 
  • Evansville enjoys the unique distinction of being the only town in Indiana that has been the County Seat for two counties. Evansville was the County Seat of Warrick County up to September 1, 1814. 
  • According to the Society of Indiana Pioneers, an individual was a pioneer of our county if they resided here on or before December 31, 1825.
  • Indiana automobile License Plates issued in Vanderburgh County start with the prefix 82 because it is the eighty-second county in alphabetical listing.
