oseph McKinney enlisted in 1776 as a private in Captain
Harry Terrill's Co., 5th Virginia Regiment of foot soldiers, under Colonel
Josiah Parker (D.A.R.). He served all through the Revolution and was twice
taken prisoner, and was once tied to the stake to be burnt, but was rescued
by an Indian chief, who paid his ransom and set him free. Joseph, who died
at Fairview, aged ninety years, was buried in Fairview Cemetery.
