Postcard of a Lambert, and perhaps the children of its proud owner, in front of Dunn's Bridge, Porter County, ca. 1910. Located about 2 1/2 miles north  of Tefft (Jasper County) off of State Road 10, tradition is that J. D. Dunn, a local farmer, traveled to Chicago at the close of the fair in 1894 and bought part of a Ferris Wheel from the 1893 Chicago World Fair as scrap. From Chicago it traveled by rail and wagon where John Cooper (blacksmith) and Alonzo Hilliand (carpenter) fashioned this unique structure. The area near the bridge is said to have had a picnic area, dance hall, amusement park and taverns. Apparently the Porter County Parks Department believes the structure was formed from an old building previously located at the site, however, the story is too good not to be true -- special thanks to Thomas Keesling for the scans!
