A Few Facts About Morgan County
  • Morgan County is divided into 14 Civil Townships as follows: Adams, Ashland, Baker, Brown, Clay, Green, Gregg, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Ray and Washington.
  • Morgan County began its official existence February 15, 1822. 
  • Martinsville is the County Seat. First settled in 1822 by Joshua Taylor, Judge Gray, Jacob Cutler, G. W. Preston, Dr. Sims, and other, by 1849 it contained a population of about 600.
  • According to the Society of Indiana Pioneers, an individual was a pioneer of our county if they resided here on or before December 31, 1830.
  • Indiana automobile License Plates issued in Morgan County start with the prefix 55 because it is the fifty-fifth county in alphabetical listing.
