The mission
of the Jackson Township Historical Society, Inc., formed in April 2001, is
to collect, preserve and exhibit the history of Jackson Township, Boone County,
Indiana, for the education of students, members and the general public.
The Society purchased The Jamestown Press building and all of its contents in June 2001. Fundraisers and grants have provided funding for the on-going renovation of the building that contains linotype machines, old printing presses, The Jamestown Press newspapers dating from 1884 to its last publication in January 1993, and a myriad of other items. The building will be opened as a printing museum and a depository for artifacts form Jackson Township.
The State Bank of Lizton, in March 2004, generously gifted to the historical society their former banking facility in Advance. The building, built in 1919 in the Beaux architectural style, was the State Bank of Advance. This building will become the Advance branch of the historical society and will house displays from Jackson Township, computers and the conference room will be used for meetings.
