eter Briner, a prominent farmer in Grassy Forks Township, was born in 1774 in Pennsylvania and came to Indiana by way of Kentucky before 1820. Peter and some of his siblings had followed his father, also named Peter, on this migration from Pennsylvania but his father and a brother settled in Orange County.

Peter and his wife Catherine Cook Briner were charter members of the Mt. Pleasant Church near Tampico. Soon after the church was established in 1829, Peter died. He was buried in the church cemetery.
