The Courthouse now in use was completed in 1858, at a cost of $28,000. It is a substantial and tasty building, in the midst of a fine little park. The jail is located in the basement.

The county owns a fine farm south of Huntington, for the maintenance of paupers, and same being over two hundred acres in extent.

A flourishing County Agricultural Society has been in existence in the county for a number of years, and annual fairs are held a short distance west of Huntington.

The county officers for 1875-76 are as follows: Auditor, Harvey Black; Treasurer, Sexton Emley; Sheriff, Aden J. Wiles; Clerk, Thomas L. Lucas; Recorder, Lewis J. Day; Surveyor, James W. Gusman; Coroner, Tipton Allman; Commissioners, Daniel Kitch, John W. Baker, Oliver H. Fisher; County Superintendent, F. M. Huff.
