First Public Questions

"Between the years 1800 and 1810 the principal subjects which attracted the attention of the people of the Indiana Territory were land speculations, the adjustment of land titles, the question of Negro slavery, the purchase of Indian lands by treaties, the organization of territorial Legislatures, the extension of the right of suffrage, the division of the Indiana territory, the movements of Aaron Burr, and the hostile views and proceedings of the Shawnee chief, Tecumseh, and his brother, the Prophet" (Ibid).
