A Few Facts About Fayette County
  • Fayette County is divided into 9 Civil Townships as follows: Columbia, Connersville, Fairview, Harrison, Jackson, Jennings, Orange, Posey and Waterloo.
  • Fayette County was organized December 28, 1818, by an act of the Legislature, which became effective January 1, 1819.
  • Connersville is the County Seat.
  • John Conner laid out the town that bears his name, Connersville, in 1817.
  • According to the Society of Indiana Pioneers, an individual was a pioneer of our county if they resided here on or before December 31, 1825.
  • At Connersville High School, in the 1906-07 school year, Dr. W. Otto Meissner established the first high school concert band in the United States.
  • Indiana automobile License Plates issued in Fayette County start with the prefix 21 because it is the twenty-first county in alphabetical listing.
  • Fayette County was the first in the nation to have a Free Fair -- thanks to Jolissa Bates.
