This postcard is marked as showing some of the destruction wrought in Lawrenceburg, Dearborn County, by the 1913 flood ... however, upon examination there are some questions ... the business in the background is the "Batesville Lumber and Veneer Company" which makes me to wonder if this was actually in Batesville instead of Lawrenceburg ... I can't find evidence of that company anywhere, however, it was obviously next to one of the rivers that flooded in 1913 and the railroad tracks run right past it, so it might have been a warehouse/shipping complex in Lawrenceburg that was used for transferring lumber onto boats for shipment ... but I can't say for sure! If you have any additional information about this image I'd love to hear from you! -- special thanks to Jane Lyle for providing this image from her personal collection and Thomas Keesling for the scan!
