EUGENE COVERED BRIDGE

The Eugene Covered Bridge crosses The Vermillion River in Vermillion County. This single span Burr Arch Truss structure has a length of 192 feet, or 212 feet including the 10-foot overhang at each end, is 15 feet wide and 13 feet high. Built in 1873 by Joseph J. Daniels. The Eugene Covered Bridge was bypassed in 1973 and restoration was complete in 1995. Although no historical marker is present, the structure was listed in 1994 on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. The Eugene Covered Bridge is listed in the 1989 "World Guide to Covered Bridges," published by The National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges, Inc., as 14-83-05. The structure was previously identified as "em" by the Covered Timber Bridge Commission of 1938, and it is located in Section 30, Township 18 North, and Range 9 West, on the northwest edge of Eugene just off of Main Street or 1 mile north of Cayuga.
