Info.

The Cedar Ford Covered Bridge is no longer standing … it originally crossed Little Blue River on or near where East German Road crosses the river, just northeast of Shelbyville, Shelby County. This single span Burr Arch Truss structure had a length of 127 feet, or 141 feet including the 7-foot overhang at each end, with a portal clearance 15 feet 6 inches wide by 13 feet high. Built by Kennedy Brothers in 1885, on January of 1975, at a cost of $11,000, it was moved to the fairgrounds where it was reassembled; sometime in the late 1970s or early 1980s the structure was dismantled and has been stored on Fairground property since.

George Gould identified a World Guide number of 14-73-01 for the Cedar Ford Covered Bridge in his book "Indiana Covered Bridges Thru the Years," published in 1977 by the Indiana Covered Bridge Society, Inc. In the February 1938 "Indiana History Bulletin" Robert B. Yule and Richard C. Smith assigned the designation "dn" to this Covered Timber Bridge located in Section 33, Township 13 North, and Range 7 East, 1 mile norhteast of Shelbyville ... click here for more information on covered bridge designations.

The announcement came in May of 2003 that the Cedar Ford Covered Bridge wll be reconstructed in Monroe County! Replacing the McMillan Covered Bridges on Old Maple Grove Road, which was lost in 1976, federal funds in the amount of $550,000, coupled with a national historic bridge preservation grant of $120,000, will make this a reality!
