The
Homer Barn Covered Bridge originally crossed Mud Creek in Homer, Rush County;
however, in 1892 it floated downstream during a flood and landed on private
property where it was converted into a barn. Built in 1881 by Archibald M.
Kennedy and Sons, this single span Multiple King Post Truss structure has
a length of 55 feet and is the only Kennedy bridge still standing utilizing
this style truss, as they generally preferred using a Burr Arch support system.
Located in Section 13, Township 13 North and Range 9 East, the Homer Barn
Covered Bridge was listed in the World Guide (according to G. Gould's 1977
list) as #14-70-18, however, in the 1972 World Guide it was listed in as
#14-70-09, the same number Gould uses to identify the Raleigh Covered Bridge.
As of 2005 the structure sits mostly empty and the shed that was added to
the west side of the structure is collapsing; however, the physical structure
of the old bridge appears to be in excellent condition!
