The Bushing Covered Bridge crosses Laughery Creek north of US 50 on the west edge of Versailles State Park, near the south entrance, in Ripley County. Built in 1885 by Thomas A. Hardman, this single span Howe Truss structure has a length of 176 feet, or 184 feet including the 4-foot overhang at each end, with a portal clearance 15 feet 6 inches wide by 16 feet 6 inches high. Bushing Covered Bridge is listed in the 1989 "World Guide to Covered Bridges," published by The National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges, Inc., as #14-69-04 ... In the February 1941 "Indiana History Bulletin" Robert B. Yule and Richard C. Smith assigned the designation "cp" to this Covered Timber Bridge located in Section 7, Township 7 North, and Range 12 East, 1/2 miles east of Varsailles. In 2005 CLR, Inc., undertook the task of renovating this treasured Indiana landmark ... for images and information about this project, you can visit their Internet home page at www.workingbridges.net
