DUNBAR COVERED BRIDGE

The Dunbar Covered Bridge crosses Big Walnut Creek on the section of County Road 25, which is known as Dunbar Road and is connected to Highway 231 via Doc James Road, in Putnam County. This double span Burr Arch Truss structure has a length of 174 feet, or 198 feet including the 12-foot overhang at each end, with a portal clearance 16 feet wide by 13 feet 6 inches high. Built in 1880 by Joseph A. Britton, the Dunbar Covered Bridge was listed in the 1989 World Guide as #14-67-07 ... in the February 1941 "Indiana History Bulletin" Robert B. Yule and Richard C. Smith assigned the designation "fu" to this Covered Timber Bridge located in Section 17, Township 14 North, and Range 4 West, about 1 mile northwest of Greencastle.
