BAKERS CAMP COVERED BRIDGE

The Bakers Camp Covered Bridge, also known as the Hillis Covered Bridge, crosses Big Walnut Creek on County Road 550 North in Putnam County. This single span Burr Arch Truss structure has a length of 128 feet, or 184 feet including the 10-foot overhang at each end, with a portal clearance 14 feet wide by 13 feet high. Built in 1901 by Joseph J. Daniels, the Hillis Mill was originally located just up stream from the Bakers Camp Covered bridge, which was listed as #14-67-02 in the in the 1989 World Guide ... in the February 1941 "Indiana History Bulletin" Robert B. Yule and Richard C. Smith assigned the designation "cn" to this Covered Timber Bridge located in Section 8, Township 15 North, and Range 3 West, about 1-1/2 miles southeast of Bainbridge.
