PINE BLUFF COVERED BRIDGE

The Pine Bluff Covered Bridge crosses Big Walnut Creek on County Road 950 in Putnam County. This double span Howe Truss structure has a length of 211 feet, or 233 feet including the 11-foot overhang at each end, with a portal clearance 16 feet wide by 13 feet 6 inches high. Recently the Pine Bluff Covered Bridge has been identified as having a unique variation of the Howe Truss, which included steel plates, and has been added to the National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges list of significant bridges. Current speculation is that J. A. Britton built this covered bridge that was listed in the 1989 World Guide as #14-64-03 ... in the February 1941 "Indiana History Bulletin" Robert B. Yule and Richard C. Smith assigned the designation "cw" to this Covered Timber Bridge located in Section 29, Township 16 North, and Range 3 West, about 2-1/2 miles northeast of Bainbridge.
