ZACKE COX COVERED BRIDGE

This Zacke Cox Covered Bridge crosses Rock Run Creek on County Road West 500 South in Parke County. This single span Burr Arch Truss structure has a length of 54 feet, or 72 feet including the 9-foot overhang at each end, is 15 feet wide and 14 feet high. Built in 1908 by Joseph A Britton, though no historical marker is present, the Zacke Cox Covered Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, and was underwent a complete restoration in 2002. Zacke Cox Covered Bridge is listed in the 1989 "World Guide to Covered Bridges," published by The National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges, Inc., as #14-61-11; however, the designation used by Parke County officials is #14-61-20 ... in the February 1938 "Indiana History Bulletin" Robert B. Yule and Richard C. Smith assigned the designation "dp" to this Covered Timber Bridge located in Section 3, Township 14 North, and Range 8 West, about 3 miles north of Coxville. |
