JEFFRIES FORD COVERED BRIDGE

The Jeffries Ford Covered Bridge is no longer standing it crossed Big Raccoon Creek on or County Road 150 East in Parke County. This double span Burr Arch Truss structure had a length of 204 feet, or 222 feet including the 9-foot overhang at each end, with a portal clearance 16 feet wide by 13 feet high. Built in 1915 by Joseph A. Britton, the Jeffries Ford Covered Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Lost in 2002, the Jeffries Ford Covered Bridge was listed in the 1989 "World Guide to Covered Bridges," published by The National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges, Inc., as #14-61-03; however, the designation used by Parke County officials was #14-61-09 ... in the February 1938 "Indiana History Bulletin" Robert B. Yule and Richard C. Smith assigned the designation "be" to this Covered Timber Bridge located in Section 29, Township 14 North, and Range 7 West, 2 miles southwest of Bridgeton. |
