The Harbison Covered Bridge is no longer standing it crossed Big Raccoon Creek in Section 2, Township 15 North, and Range 6 West, Parke County. Joseph A. Britton built this Burr Arch Truss structure in 1916. The Harbison Covered Bridge was destroyed by fire on December 22, 1943, when one of the "inch" pipelines running along its length sprung a leak and spread oil across the creek, which then ignited and engulfed the bridge. George Gould identified a World Guide number of 14-61-47 for the Harbison Covered Bridge in his book "Indiana Covered Bridges Thru the Years," published in 1977 by the Indiana Covered Bridge Society, Inc. |
