FAIRFAX COVERED BRIDGE

The Fairfax Covered Bridge is no longer standing … it crossed Salt Creek in Sections 25 and 26, Township 7 North, and Range 1 West, Monroe County. This single span Howe Truss structure had a length of 125 feet, or 131 feet including the 3-foot overhand at each end, with a portal clearance 16 feet wide by 15 feet high. Built in 1879 by the Smith Bridge Company, the Fairfax Covered Bridge was listed as #14-53-03 in the World Guide (according to G. Gould's 1977 list) and was removed in 1963 as part of the Monroe Reservoir project.
