VERMONT COVERED BRIDGE

The Vermont Covered Bridge originally crossed Wild Cat Creek, in Section 35, Township 24 North and Range 4 East, just south of Vermont on or near County Road 500 East, where the Kokomo Reservoir is now located in Howard County. This single span Smith #3 Truss structure has a length of 98 feet, or 117 feet including the 8-foot overhang on one end and 11-foot on the other, with a portal clearance 13 feet 6 inches wide by 13 feet high. Built in 1875 by Smith Bridge Company, in 1958 the structure was moved to Kokomo's Highland Park in Section 1, Township 23 North, Range 3 East, Highland Park, where it now crosses Kokomo Creek. The Vermont Covered Bridge was listed as #14-34-01 in the 1989 World Guide.
