WALLACE COVERED BRIDGE

The Wallace Covered Bridge crosses Sugar Mill Creek, in Section 19, Township 18 North, and Range 6 West, just off of East Lutheran Church Road southeast of Wallace, Fountain County. This single span Howe Truss structure has a length of 81 feet, with a portal clearance 11 feet 6 inches wide by 16 feet high. Built in 1871 by Barnhart and Aherns, the bridge was used for the Interurban and is representative of the proportions generally used for railroad covered bridges. The area around the Wallace Covered Bridge has become a pretty park and it was listed as #14-23-01 in the 1972 World Guide).
