The Bowling Greene Covered Bridge is no longer standing it crossed the Eel River in Section 24, Township 11 North, and Range 6 West, Clay County. This double span Burr Arch Truss structure had a length of 280 feet and was built in about 1870. The Bowling Greene Covered Bridge was listed as #14-11-02 in the World Guide (according to G. Gould's 1977 list). Charles Dinsmore provided a postcard image of the Bowling Green Covered Bridge that included a notation the bridge collapsed on June 1, 1945; George Gould indicated the west span fell into the river in June of 1946. Regardless of the date this structure became unusable, the fallen timbers as well as the remaining span was purchased by local farmer Harry L. Elkin who tried to generate interest in preserving the remaining span. Lacking support, by December of 1949 Elkin had removed the metal roofing, sheathing and rafters leaving the skeleton of the east span standing until 1951.
