The North 2nd Street Covered Bridge is no longer standing it crossed the St. Mary's River in Adams County and was most likely located in Congressional Township 28 North, Range 14 East, Section 34, in Decatur. The for this structure may be deceiving as it appears the bridge was on a road that veered off of 2nd immediately north of its junction with 5th and Washington Streets today this road is known as West 50 East and it appears that the old covered bridge was just east of the current structure. Built in 1880 by the Smith Bridge Company, this structure probably utilized a Smith Truss and was 152 feet long. While the date this structure was lost is not known, its original cost was $3,002. The common numerical identifier for the North Second Street Covered Bridge is 14-01-05. The red star on the small map above represents the approximate location of this structure.
