The Pleasant Mills Covered Bridge is no longer standing it crossed the St. Mary's River in Adams County and was located in Congressional Township 27 North, Section 20, and Range 15 East on or near Highway 101 at Pleasant Mills. Built in 1882 by the Smith Bridge Co., this single span Howe Truss structure was 129 feet long, or 133 feet including the 2-foot overhang at each end, with a portal clearance 16 feet wide by 13 feet 6 inches high. The original cost of the bridge, excluding the foundation of limestone laid on a base of hewn square 10-inch burr oak, was $2551.50. County commissioners during construction were Daniel Weldy, Leauder Dunbar and John Rupright with the structure receiving its name from the nearby town, which was derived from a close proximity to the waterpowered mills in the area. Lost in 1963 when the location was required for the construction of State Road 101, the common numerical identifier for the Pleasant Mills Covered Bridge was 14-01-01; however, it was early given the alpha identifier "ef" by the 1938 Covered Timber Bridge Commission. The red star on the small map above represents the approximate location of this structure.
