CLARK'S GRANT

Sections are numbered from left to right (parallel to the Ohio River) and start with the number 1 in the lowest spot of the map where the text "Jeffersonville" can be observed, and run to the top most point where the numbering conclude with 298. These sectional divisions do NOT match the Congressional Township format utilized throughout the majority of the state as they pre-date United States Government possession. This grant was made to George Rogers Clark, his officers and soldiers, for the conquest of the northwest from the English at the time of the Revolutionary War. As the party was sent forth by the Generally Assembly of Virginia, that body of government was responsible for implementing this land reward. As this land was dispersed prior to the sales of the early 1800's by the United States, no Bureau of Land Management records are available.
