A Few Facts About Allen County
  • Allen County is divided into 20 Civil Townships as follows: Aboite, Adams, Cedar Creek, Eel River, Jackson, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Madison, Marion, Maumee, Milan, Monroe, Perry, Pleasant, Scipio, Springfield, St. Joseph, Washington and Wayne.
  • The organization of Allen County was effective April 1, 1824. The county at this time embraced also the territory afterward given to Wells, Adams, Huntington and Whitley counties.
  • Fort Wayne is the County Seat.
  • Johnny Appleseed is buried in David Archer's graveyard two and one half miles north of Ft. Wayne.
  • According to the Society of Indiana Pioneers, an individual was a pioneer of our county if they resided here on or before December 31, 1840.
  • Indiana automobile License Plates issued in Allen County start with the prefix 2 because it is the second county in alphabetical listing.
