After traveling through Indiana
photographing the remaining covered bridges, I came across this book by Bryan
Ketcham who had made a similar journey. During the 1940s Mr. Ketcham traveled
throughout the state documenting and photographing all the bridges then standing
... unfortunately, now more than half of his bridges have been relegated
to memory. As you browse through this site please note that I have relied
heavily on the observations of this fellow sojourner and you will find numerous
photos of the lost covered bridges based on the photographs that he preserved.
The original book by Mr. Ketcham would be a wonderful addition to any Indiana
Covered Bridge enthusiasts collection ... long out of print, it was apparently
self published in about 1949, printed by Oxford Printing Company of Oxford,
Ohio, with engravings by Threlkeld-Jones Company. Additionally, images of
the Guilford, Tunnelton, Raleigh, Pipestem, Perkins Corner, Cover, Cedar
Ford, Brannon, Portland Mills, Bridgeton, Logan Creek, Waterworks, Clifty,
Gosport, West College Corner, and Williams covered bridges were made into
postcards that are frequently available on Internet auctions and
elsewhere.
Recently I've discovered that there are a
number of the copies of this book that Mr. Ketcham didn't sell that are available
for purchase ... these books are new, not used! I am working on the details
for the proper contact so if you are interested in adding this, in my opinion,
best Indiana Covered Bridge reference to your collection just send me an
e-mail for more details.
